Your First Visit

What to expect

On your first visit your Chiropractor will ask you questions about your pain, medical history, posture and lifestyle. You will be asked not just about the pain or the complaint that may have brought you to the Centre, but about your past and present health history. Some of these questions may appear irrelevant to you, but they are important to help establish the cause of your pain and ensure that Chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition. If Chiropractic is not suitable for you will be referred to the appropriate healthcare professional such as your GP or Consultant.

Once your case history has been completed your Chiropractor will conduct a fully and thorough examination to establish and confirm a diagnosis. The examination will concentrate on the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles and joints), but it may also be necessary to check other things such as your heart, lungs and abdomen to rule out other causes to your pain. This thorough approach and examination is a normal procedure at our Centre.

Gowns are made available for you to wear for the examination and treatments.

Report of Findings

Before treatment starts the Chiropractors at this Centre will tell you in clear, simple language what is wrong with you, what can be done about it and what you will expect. You will also be told of any changes to your lifestyle that may be beneficial so that you can help yourself. A part of getting better is up to you, so please follow any instruction and advice carefully and completely.

You will be advised of all costs that relate to your care.

Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe, gentle, specific adjustments done by hand to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly along with exercise to stretch and strengthen muscles. This can result in an audible ‘pop’ which is simply the sound of bubbles of gas popping in the fluid of the joint as the pressure is released (it is not bones grating on bones).

Your Chiropractor will utilise a wide variety of techniques that are suitable for your particular condition at the time to get you out pain as wuickly as possible an din the minimum of discomfort.
